WILD ROOTS & TWISTED FIBERS
Building a simple, sustainable and deeply rooted life is our goal.
Keeping traditional skills alive and sharing the knowledge with others is our passion.
A little about what we do…
We raise Huacaya Alpacas, Corriedale , and Shetland Sheep. We shear them once a year for their fiber. We use a local fiber mill for processing. I also process and hand spin some myself too!
We keep everything natural and wholesome, and that includes color. We sustainably grow and harvest various roots, berries, flowers, and leaves to dye our 100% natural yarns. The colors are beautiful and natural and most importantly eco-friendly.
Alpacas originated from the high Andes of South America. They give us luxurious, beautiful soft fiber that is lightweight, extremely warm and can be worn close to your skin without irritation. Alpaca is fine and soft like cashmere. Alpaca yarn is considered a high end exotic fiber.
We also raise a small flock of Corriedale and Shetland sheep. We love the docile breed, and their fine fleece as well. A little more rugged compared to the alpaca, but that’s the beauty of Sheep fleece. Sheep also have beautiful qualities of softness, warmth, and moisture wicking properties.
We process 100% Alpaca yarn, and 100% Wool, but we also love to blend alpaca and sheep together to create an excellent all purpose yarn that is still so soft, but with a little added bulk and resilience. Great for Sweaters, mittens, hats, and everything else
